2000 Mile Roadtrip from LA to Colorado. First long road trip (Pics) 😊
I never write blogs or long posts but I just went on an amazing trip with my M3 LR RWD and wanted to share. I bought this car 2 years ago and due to work travel and COVID I only have 13K miles on the odometer. An opportunity arose due to my friend getting married in Colorado and I’ve never been to any of the national parks in the desert south west so I decided to make a rod trip out of it! I drove from the LA area to Bryce Canyon and stayed a few days, then to Moab UT for a night, then to Durango CO for 3 nights then home through New Mexico & Arizona. Story and Pics follow. I left around 8am and drove to Bryce. It's a 530 mile trip and took ~9 hours. I roughly mapped out the trip via ABRP with conservative settings to get an idea of the trip and made sure to stay at hotels that had destination chargers. My first and most range anxiety stop was at Primm, NV. The car said from the start I'd arrive at 7%. If you’ve done this drive from LA after Baker there is a large uphill incline followed by a long decline to state line. Going up the hill I had less range than the distance to destination. My wife was super nervous as was I. I drafted behind a semi which BTW I'm not even sure I did properly as I don’t know how to actually draft LOL. Anyway coming down the hill I regen’ed almost the entire way and arrive with 6% and 19m range. I should have just realized and trusted the car from the beginning. This was a pic during the moments of stress https://i.imgur.com/lm6SMgG.jpg So hot…so many fires along the way https://i.imgur.com/n8OlGTH.jpg Me charging in Primm, NV at 118 ambient. 130+ Kw https://imgur.com/0oWgO2J.jpg We had lunch in the casino and headed on to St George UT. Since my wife was super nervous about range from the prior stop she asked we top off in Vegas so we did. This downtown charger was in a weird place with nothing around. We stopped for only 5 mins since there was nothing around, but it never mattered since we arrived at St George with ~105 of range https://imgur.com/1iE65bn.jpg St George, UT was a challenge. It was so hot that day the heading across the NV desert my car registered in at 119F. https://imgur.com/2Ppo7o4.jpg When I arrived in St George I had 104 miles and there was a line at the charger. I had to wait 15 mins then realized why there was a line. The car told me to charge for 20 mins but it took over an hour with ~30Kw max charge speed. It wasn’t just me as other cars were there a long as me and the line grew. I guess it was the heat...it was blazing hot although I charged in Primm at 118F and had no problems. This was the only ‘annoyance’ in charging but we made the best of it and I made it to Bryce which is a large elevation gain with 29% SOC...i guess I waited too long in the St George heat and that slow 30Kw 😊 We stayed at the Bryce Canyon Best Western. They had 4 chargers. No problems although one of them requires you to park in a no parking spot to make the cable reach. Bryce is ~8-9K feet so the temp was cooler. Still hot with highs in the 90s. I’ve didn’t know that any state had an 80mph speed limit but Utah does! https://imgur.com/80kIrn2.jpg This is the part where we deviate from the car a bit. Stayed 3 days. Hiked and road horses. Amazing place...breath taking https://imgur.com/ZZpClbt.jpg https://imgur.com/TGM6CzI.jpg https://imgur.com/a5bAOVA.jpg https://imgur.com/oXgFycB.jpg From Bryce we headed to Moab and stopped at Green River which was a great charging station with a very good local restaurant across the street. https://i.imgur.com/q9cICow.jpg Moab was very hot ~110F, but Arches national park was as expected. I figured I’d be able to drive through get out for a few mins, take it in, and get back into the car. I was able to do that. Camp Mode was awesome for this 😊 Yeah yeah I know there are hikes and things I could have done but I wouldn’t be in this trip if it weren’t for the wedding so the time of year and temps were just part of the coincidence of me even having driven here in the first place. https://i.imgur.com/KHyxV4p.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Qqhso3T.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3h2Vg4v.jpg https://i.imgur.com/f3uaBYh.jpg In Moab we went to a winery after an amazing drive along the Colorado river. I knew Utah had strict laws on drinking but man this was a let down if you like to relax and have a drink. I knew something was up with the tasting was $1 per person. The drive was amazing though and that’s what matters https://i.imgur.com/ZuQaPDc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Qqhso3T.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yX6GlSD.jpg Finally, the wedding! I wish we had more time on Moab but alas we woke up and headed to Durango. In Durango our hotel had 4 destination chargers and no problems finding an open spot. We stayed at the Double Tree which was a amazing hotel on the local river. https://i.imgur.com/010ACw8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5e2mbZc.jpg Downtown Durango was very cool. Lots of small locals shops and a great Winery named Four Leaves https://i.imgur.com/QDBTCGX.jpg This is an Aerial shot of the historic narrow gauge train depot https://i.imgur.com/aPMQjQZ.jpg Durango was beautiful and we took this awesome historic train ride from Durango to Silverton. This ride is 9 hours pre-COVID but only 3 now due to 50% capacity and the financial ability of the entire run. It was still amazing. https://i.imgur.com/ric0c8o.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ik4KhcT.jpg Oh and we couriered the bride’s vale all the way to the wedding! https://i.imgur.com/BWCedu1.jpg After 3 days in Durango having a great time with friends, we headed home through New Mexico and Arizona. Coming into New Mexico from Colorado put us in the Navajo Indian Reservation. Talk about a depressing place. The landscape was ugly, the roads were bad, and there were “don't drink and drive signs” all over the place including the do not enter signs all over the media separated highway which suggests a lot of people go flying down a divided highway the wrong way. We stopped to charge in Gallup, NM which is a skip. There is nothing in walking distance at all. That said charging was fast! https://i.imgur.com/YMrJjet.jpg We also stopped at Holbrook, AZ. We didn’t need to charge but were hungry an there is a Burger King there. Now off to Flagstaff where we spent a night and hit local bars which was fun as it’s a college town. We charged at the super charger which is in the hotel parking lot we stayed in and then woke up to head home the next day. On the way home we stopped in Needles, CA just past the border. I suppose I forgot to take a pic because I can’t find one but it’s a good spot at a Dairy Queen which fortunately in this blazing hot place has partial shade on the chargers depending on on time of today you go. I was there about 9:30am From there we headed to Barstow which requires a solid charge as the elevation gain is ~4K feet and it’s one of the most desolate drives I’ve ever done. There is absolutely nothing out in the Mojave desert except blazing heat and sand. Running out of charge or breaking down out here would suck. It was ~150 miles and I used 250 miles of range to achieve it but I arrived with plenty. Charging in Barstow was nice. They have 12 stations and shade. There are several places to eat in a short walking distance. https://i.imgur.com/JNmsVmM.jpg From there I was home in 90 mins! This was a great trip and while my wife didn’t really understand why i didn't want to fly for me in addition to seeing these amazing national parks I wanted to see what it was like to drive an EV thousands of miles and frankly as I mentioned at the beginning I’ve had this car 2 years with only 13K miles and I wanted to road trip away from this COVID isolation. The trip was amazing, the car is amazing. A few closing thoughts 1 - Charging is not slower than pumping gas. Yeah filling the tank takes 5 mins, and charging takes 15-30 mins but depending on the situation but after driving for hundreds of miles for multiple hours getting out to get a drink, stretch, grab a bite to eat is what I would have naturally done anyway and the time at the stop felt totally normal. 2 - The issue in St George was an anomaly IMO. It was almost 120 degrees ambient and the charger was busy. 3 - The trip was super smooth and EAP relieves a lot of driving fatigue. I don’t know how to explain it but using EAP makes you far less fatigued than normal driving. I was able to stretch my legs, enjoy some scenery, and overall feel more after each leg of the trip. 4 - Lastly…..it’s amazing to me that we have technology that can hurl me across the desert in 100+ temps at 85mpg for hundreds of miles in luxury all using a battery!! I hope you all enjoyed reading this. I enjoyed writing it.

"Everything is in its place." Vulpes assured, stone-faced as ever as he spoke through his goggles, looking into the eyes of his deified liege. "The Legate awaits in his camp, ready to disseminate orders to the Centurions at your command." Caesar's fingers dragged and gripped at the arm of his throne. The time, it seems, had finally come. Now was the winter of the Legion's discontent, and it was moments away from receiving the order that would drive it into the heights of tomorrow's glory. Caesar paused to look up at the drifting clouds - to take a deep breath and ready himself for what whwat was to come. "Then let it be so, Vulpes. In hoc signo taures vinces. We take the battle to the NCR as soon as the Legate is ready."
PHASE ONE - FORTIFICATION HILL AND COTTONWOOD COVE
Vulpes stepped out of the tent atop the hill - he walked directly across from its entrance, to where a great, twisting bugle stood atop a wooden stand. He approached, wiping dust from its hitherto unused mouthpiece and placing his lips around it, blowing deeply. Down by the river, the walls of the Fort shook as a bellowing call rattled through the air. A Vexillarius sprang to his feet, his ears twitching as he listened for the second - then the third call. He scrambled towards the ladder of a watch-tower, practically throwing himself up the ten-metre tall ladder until he reached the top and pulled out his horn. The whole fort would erupt into a cacophany of horns as watchmen blew their own alarms - and the chaos of clanging metal and marching men followed, as the Legion war machine began to turn with a torque not seen since the Grand Canyon. Up once more in the Fort proper, before Vulpes' eyes, men marched to the blacksmith to grab their weapons, to the provisions store to load up their bags, and quickly assembled on the mustering ground, as they began to march in their cohorts; some to the river for the trip to Cottonwood Cove, but most south towards the Legate's Camp, ready to march across Hoover Dam. These plans had been drawn and rehearsed again and again for weeks - every Legionary had his moves practiced to perfection, like components in a machine. When the rafts full of soldiers began to land at Cottonwood Cove, Aurelius of Phoenix found himself with an interminable grin as he whipped his own men into shape. A heavy perimeter was quickly established around the Cove - no doubt, any Bear scouts in the region would know full well what was being set into motion, and the Legion could not afford any preventative attacks on its troop columns or supply lines. Cohorts of Legionaries set off at quick-march in all directions across the wastes, with ranks varying from green recruits pulled from 80s auxiliaries, all the way up to hardened veterans from the Flagstaff Legion. It would be some time until they began to reach their targets - and until then, there was more work to be done before the Bear realised what was about to hit it.
PHASE TWO - NEW ROME
Cato's radio crackled to life - though this time there were no words, only a frantic message in Morse code. Cato took out a pen and began to scrawl down the dots and dashes for translation - and his eyes widened when the message was complete. He asked plainly for confirmation, and the message repeated. Unbeknownst to those on the Strip, the streets were naught but ten minutes away from exploding into chaos. The next contact on Cato's list was Legate Domus - the frumentarius quickly picked up the direct phoneline he'd been given to Mr. House, and in a hushed but hurried tone, began to explain. "Legate, the time has come. The eastern war machine has come to life - the Battle of Hoover Dam begins today. There is no time to tarry, we must rise and seize Vegas from the clutches of the NCR. My men will soon take the Strip; prepare your own." The phone was slammed back into its handset, and Cato hurried out onto the casino floor to issue an apologetic announcement about the closure of the casino - all except a few 'VIPs' were herded out onto the Strip, and the Casino went into lockdown while preparations were made. Every Senator in the building ditched his suit, gearing back up into their Legionary armour from a long-untouched stash concealed within the halls of the Brimstone. Ill-gotten firearms, machete gladii and molotovs were doled out - as for those who were selected as 'VIPs,' they were wordlessly handed the same items and instructed to join the others. Those who failed to comply in good time would simply be hurried towards the exit, where they'd be waylaid into a side-room and unceremoniously executed. No more than twenty minutes later, everyone was ready - and the five hundred or so 'members of staff' plus one hundred or so 'volunteers' assembled at the casino door with Cato at their forefront. He spoke only one, muttered invocation before the casino doors were unbolted and kicked open. "In hoc signo, taures vinces." It's hard to truly encapsulate in words the shock that must have dawned upon those on the streets of Vegas when the former Gomorrah - Caesar's Palace - began to pour honest to god, actual Legionaries. Half of them thought it was some kind of publicity stunt, and stared in amazement - only to be harshly corrected when bullets swiftly began connecting with the skulls of drunk NCR Military Police scattered around the streets. Chaos ensued, with civilians running for their lives and - as per the agreement with the new Legate - being spared, while the drunk and hungover NCR in this sector of the strip frantically radioed for backup and attempted to mount a resistance. The doors of the Ultra-Luxe soon opened as well, with the masked individuals rushing onto the streets with calls of 'True to Caesar!' and 'For the Legion!' Having had Mortimer's... interests, leveraged by the frumentarii of Caesar's Palace, an under-the-table agreement had been reached for the White Gloves to assist in the takeover when the time came; and Cato smiled to find that they had actually followed through, with the Legion presence on the Strip quickly doubling in size or more thanks to these reinforcements. Their first mission was clear - while waiting for House's securitrons to arrive on the Strip, a contigent quickly went to reinforce the gate separating the two halves of the strip, to ensure reinforcements from the NCR Embassy would be slow - the rest began their assault of the McCarran monorail terminal, the first of two major NCR presences on the Strip that would need to be dealt with. MODS TAKE NOTE: POTENTIAL ALLIES THAT COULD DEPLOY HERE, DEPENDING ON RESOLUTION OF THEIR EVENTS The Kings - Pacer could lead the Kings from Freeside onto the Strip to assist with the battle. Followers of the Apocalypse - the Followers could begin to render medical assistance to those on the strip from both sides - alternatively, they could take the opportunity of the chaos to begin to retreat further into NCR territory.
PHASE THREE - HELIOS ONE
Much as at New Vegas, a Legion radio at Hidden Valley came to life with a Morse message - and Decanus Alexus would quickly spread the word to Symmachus that they were to march on Helios One at once, to begin their part in the Battle of Hoover Dam. The Legionaries and their Brotherhood symmachiarii would assemble outside of Hidden Valley and begin the march on Helios One, soon descending in droves from the hills in a hail of small arms fire, molotovs and plasma. Now was the time they'd scatter the NCR-loyal Brotherhood traitors to the wind, and finally seize Helios One in the name of the true Brotherhood - beneath the Legion.

[18+] Fallout: The Frontier. A discord-based fallout text RP.
It's been 10 years since that old world wall was taken. The NCR spreads uninhibited across the American West. Up North into the untamed wilderness of Oregon and Washington, and to the East into formerly Legion lands. Frontiersmen and would be road warriors stalk the ruins of the old world, Hub politicians and New Reno mob bosses grow fatter on NCR tax money, and storms grow from every direction. A mutant hoard much like an old story from the NCR's birth grows in the ruins of Seattle, a cry from the past invades from the East as the Brotherhood of Steel pushes itself against NCR borders in Colorado, tribal savages threaten the roads after their Legion left them with no culture or history left. Frontier life is dangerous, profitable, and only for the rugged. See the great Cascadian range, the salt flats of Utah, the corpse of Flagstaff and Dogtown. Immerse yourself in NCR politics, or New Reno crime life. Gamble away your hard earned caps and cash at one of the New Vegas strip's famous casinos. The American West waits, will you answer that call to adventure? Will you travel that lonesome road, or be swallowed by old world blues? Fallout: The Frontier is a text-based fallout RP hosted on discord, and one of multiple campaigns on our lovely server. You MUST be 18 years or older to join the server, as sensitive material (though no smut) will be brought up. Hello all! I went on a roadtrip with my parents from Texas to Vegas last week, and we all eat Keto so I tried to find restaurants in the places we stopped. I thought it might be helpful for anyone traveling in the area to shoutout a few we liked. First we stopped at Porter’s Restaurant in Farmington NM. This is a steakhouse with a pretty large menu, but what attracted us was the large salad bar. The night we got there also happened to be BBQ buffet night, so we had big salads plus some ribs and brisket. Highly recommend. We stayed in Flagstaff before and after visiting the Grand Canyon. The second night we found a BBQ place called Hickory’s Smokehouse BBQ, located in what was obviously an old Pizza Hut building. Their chopped brisket, which was really more like chunks than the finely chopped brisket we associate with “chopped brisket” in Texas, was nevertheless divine. They also had generous side salads and, if you’re up for a little breading, very good fried okra. Our first night in Vegas we visited Bobby Flay’s burger place on the Strip, called Bobby’s Burger Palace. The burgers were very tasty, and they have an option to serve bunless over lettuce. We wanted to visit one buffet while we were in town but we’re also cheap bastards. We ended up in old downtown Vegas for a 12.99 dinner buffet at Main Street Station Casino, the Garden Court Buffet, a couple blocks from Freemont Street. It was very good for the money, as long as you’re not expecting sushi and bone marrow and whatever else you get if you pay $30-$50 on the strip somewhere. The best part - a selection of no-sugar-added desserts! It was mostly pie, and we didn’t eat the crust that I’m sure was made from flour, but we cheerfully ate the fillings out of chocolate cream, coconut cream, and lemon meringue pie. Finally, on the way home we stayed in Albuquerque and hit Monroe’s New Mexican Restaurant. This place had an actual low carb menu. They used low carb tortillas for things like burritos and Mexican pizzas, and served sautéed zucchini and squash on the side. They provide carb counts on their menu so you know what you’re getting. It was really nice to have a burrito in a restaurant and it not be cheating! Those were the highlights of our trip, hope it helps someone out!
My family and I will be embarking on our first cross country trip from SC to CA in the upcoming weeks. We will be traveling with our dog and are wanting to make about 4-5 stops at cool tourist attractions that are pet friendly. We will be making two overnight stops, one in Arkansas/Oklahoma and the other in New Mexico/Arizona. One of the attraction stops we will make will be at the Grand Canyon and we're looking for other attractions that you guys would recommend? Link To Some Image
BEST homeless camp in the country: WalMart parking lot in Flagstaff Arizona (free food/15 dollars daily)
If you have a car, or better a VAN that you can put a mattress in, and you can get to Flagstaff Arizona, then there is a WalMart there that allows people to park and sleep and live (as long as you don't trash your area). A casino next to it, gives you one free meal a day (yes), plus 15 dollars. Not even kidding. WalMart is open 24 hours so you can use the restroom. Gets cold in the Winter, so you have to have a LOT of blankets if you wish to stay in Winter time. Flagstaff is in the "high" forest of Arizona. If you trash your area, they'll ask you to leave. Use the restroom in WalMart. Flagstaff Arizona. You must have a car or van or larger. I'd say at least a van. You can buy vans cheap at Used Auto Sales. WalMart usually has free internet too, as does McDonald's and most fast food places: to give you something to do. Why does the casino give you 15 dollars every day and a free meal? Answer: to keep you from BEGGING in front of their casinos, which chases away potential gamblers.
Southwest roadtrip feedback: 7 nights, start/end Phoenix, early May
I am feeling overwhelmed by the amount of things to do in the Southwest US and would appreciate any feedback. I have read some other threads but would love some recommendations on what to hit and what to skip. We are planning on staying in mostly airbnbs along the way. I live in Phoenix and have two friends coming in to take this roadtrip with me. We are totally open to suggestions. Here is what I have so far: Day 1: Leave Phoenix, stop in Sedona (briefly), stop at Grand Canyon (scenic drive), end in Page, AZ (Horseshoe Bend, probably skipping Antelope Canyon). Airbnb in Page. Day 2: Drive Cottonwood Canyon Rd to Cannonville. Maybe go off to see either Zebra Slot Canyon or Devils Garden? End up in Bryce Canyon, spend remaining day in Bryce. Drive, airbnb in Springdale. Day 3: Zion - hike the Narrows. Explore. Airbnb in Springdale. Day 4: Zion - hike Angels Landing. Drive to Vegas, maybe stop off at Valley of Fire? Casinos, walk the strip, hotel in Vegas. Day 5: Vegas, see a show, explore. Hotel in Vegas. Day 6: Drive back to Phoenix, maybe a scenic route back? Hang out in Phoenix. Day 7: Salt River Tubing, hang out in Phoenix. Day 8: My friends fly out. Are we missing out by not seeing Moab/Canyonlands/Arches if we are seeing everything else here? We don't want to overdo it but I also don't want to miss anything that I won't be able to easily come back to at a later time. How does Zebra compare to Antelope Canyon? I gave us some time to relax in Phoenix at the end because I feel like we'll be a bit burned out by that point but it is flexible. Any help is appreciated! EDIT: I made some tweaks, in case anyone is interested. I added a day in there: Day 1: Phoenix to Sedona. Hike, go to Slide Rock. Hotel in Flagstaff. Day 2: Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon. Then to Page, AZ. Horseshoe Bend. Drive Cottonwood Canyon Rd to Cannonville. Hotel by Bryce Canyon. Day 3: Hiking at Bryce. If done early, drive to Escalante to see either Zebra Slot Canyon and Devils Garden. RV airbnb by Zion. Day 4: Zion - hike the Narrows. Explore. RV airbnb by Zion. Day 5: Zion - hike Angels Landing. Drive to Vegas, maybe stop off at Valley of Fire? Casinos, walk the strip, hotel in Vegas. Day 6: Vegas, see a show, explore. Hotel in Vegas. Day 7: Drive back to Phoenix, maybe a scenic route back? Hang out in Phoenix. Day 8: My friends fly out. If anyone has recommendations on the drive back from Vegas, let me know!
I'm currently driving from Phoenix to Flagstaff. As I was leaving town I saw a billboard saying something like to have a great time stop by the casino. 1 hour ahead. I noted the time at 7 12 and said we'll see about that. Speed limit is 75 and I drive 60 to go 65 cuz I have to slow. Wouldn't you know I passed the casino in 1 hour

1 Thou shalt not kill The car was silent as she stared aimlessly out the back window, taking in the grey October sky. Her brother was in the front seat, drumming his fingers on the dashboard in an equally listless manner. She saw the slightly squatty brick facade of the bank come into view, saying a quick prayer before they pulled into the parking lot. For a moment, she thought her brother would break the silence. A few words of encouragement, maybe. Instead, he turned around and gave her a little squeeze on the shoulder, for good luck. Probably. The two of them, the driver, and the other passenger, walked up to the bank casually, hands tucked in drab hoodies. Their entrance was marked by a happy little ding, the snap of rubber bands on masks, and a quick spray of gunfire. “Everyone down!” --- Ashe had started working three years ago. She was fourteen then. Her dad had died in a car accident and her mother was a deadbeat. She and her brother, Nate were thrown out of the house four months after the funeral. He had tried to get a job, but nobody would hire a “high-risk teen”. After months of trying and failing to get back on their feet, they had given up and were lost to the system. So they improvised. Their father had taught Nate how to fight after being bullied at school, while Ashe took gymnastics lessons at the Y for ten years before the accident. Naturally, this type of talent translated into crime. After an unglamorous string of pickpocketing (close calls: 15), burglaries (glass cuts: 4), and street scams (people fooled: 17), they had made off with about three thousand dollars and a plethora of bruises to show for it. Every day, Nate told her that it would be the last day, that he’d find a real job soon. Every day up until they were approached by the smiling man who said Ashe was a nice young lady and that Nate was a strong lad who could help him move his shopping bags to his car. --- Thou shalt not bear false witness to thy neighbor “He had said he had gotten the silent alarm! He said it was ‘all quiet on the western front’!” Nate was yelling from the front seat, rage barely contained within his panicked tone. Meanwhile, the driver, Alex, was trying not to crash into anything as he glanced upwards to the rear-view approximately every three seconds. The sound of police sirens could be heard vaguely in the distance, but more concerning was the police scanner sitting on the dashboard buzzing with information about their eyes, height, and hair color. “We have to ditch the car.” Ashe said, voice cracking. “Not even something as inconspicuous as a grey Sentra will get us across town.” Alex cursed softly. The nearest parking garage was five miles away and their tech guy had already scampered off like the little ferret he was. They might have had ears to the police’s movements but it was like a neon colored mouse trying to hide from a pack of bloodhounds. It was only a matter of time. As if on cue, a beige Crown Vic peeled away from the curb and started following them down the street, turning its sirens on. Alex’s cursing became louder as the din on the police scanner grew as the police’s fervor surged with excitement. He stamped hard on the accelerator as the group distanced themselves from the crowded city streets and transitioned to empty desert straightaways. The sign that read “You are now exiting Tashono, Arizona” came and went like a point of no return. Now it was just them, the red rock formations of the hazy Arizona desert, and the growing entourage of police cars behind them. It would have been a good time for a miracle right about then. But God doesn’t grant miracles for thieves. Not for people like Ashe and Nate. She said a prayer anyway. --- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods “It’s a real easy job. Small town, small bank. They’re gonna get a delivery that afternoon, my inside guy’s confirmed it. Boss will be happy. Plus, the vault’s an older model, just need a code. Sean can hack that easily enough. Right, Sean?” The kid briefly looked up from his laptop and mumbled something that sounded like an acknowledgement. Alex coughed, awkwardly. “I’m driving, while our hacker,” he took a glance towards Sean. “will be at the cafe down the street taking care of the silent alarm and the vault door. Meanwhile, we’ll pacify the crowd, bag the cash, and get out with only a few scared men and women to remember us by.” Ashe wasn’t convinced. “What’s with all the firepower then? Seems like a lot if we aren’t expecting resistance.” Nate nodded. Neither of them liked guns despite being around them almost constantly in the criminal underworld. Alex gave an evil little smile, one that made Ashe shiver. “You never know what’s going to happen, Ashe. I’d rather have a gun than the alternative.” --- “Taz, Ashe, do something! Get them off our tail!” Ashe was thrown back into the present as the swerving of the car mixed the red rock with the blue sky in an unpalatable soup. Taz was the other guy in the back seat, the quiet tag along to heist. He was barely old enough to legally own a weapon, and here he was ready to point his rifle out the window and fire on the pursuing cops. Ashe had her own pistol but it felt foreign in her hands, a cold, alien piece of metal. The window was down. The megaphone, blaring in their ears. Taz is sighting down his rifle. His finger is on the trigger. Ashe gives her brother a grave look. She’s scared. They both are. And she hits Taz on the head with the handle of her gun. Nate punches Alex in the face. The car screeches to the left, protesting. They hit a rock. Bills are flying in the air, like doves. The world dissolves into red and blue. ---- Thou shalt not steal Somehow, the bright LED light of the interrogation room is harsher than any Arizona sun. The grey walls more claustrophobic than any cave. The interrogator, more hungry than any vulture. “You have quite the file, Ms.Dyne. Honestly, when reading your story, it almost makes sense why you turned to crime.” The woman made a smile, just like the nice man who made them this way. “Almost.” She continued on, at length about the epic odyssey of the chase of the Phoenix gang. “You’ve robbed branch banks in Flagstaff, Sedona. You even went as far as Las Vegas, a year ago.” Ashe winced. The casino heist was supposed to have been clean. No trace. “Your little hacker friend, Sean? He was quite helpful in all of this. Once we linked him to a data heist in Singapore, it was all downhill for you from there. Have you ever heard of the prisoner’s dilemma? It fits right in with all this. Compared to the alternative, ratting you guys out was the easy choice.” Of course. “You’ve stolen quite a sum, Ms. Dyne, And it’s just out of you reach. Down the hall, and to the left. Almost 200,000 dollars right there. You were lucky, they had just gotten a delivery.” The interrogator’s phone rang, an angry little buzz that momentarily distracted her. Before she could yammer on to some unseen victim, however, the power went out. Just as she had wiggled out of her cuffs with the bobby pin she had stashed in her sleeve. Of course. “You stay...Right here, sweetie. I’ll be back to ask you more questions as soon as we fix this little hiccup.” With that she stormed out the door to find someone to bark orders to. Ashe waited three seconds, then bolted. She found Nate first, chained in an identical room with an identical set of cuffs. He looked surprised to see her. “Ashe? What are you doing? How did you get out?” She flashed the bobby pin to him, then quickly picked his cuffs with a click. “Down the hall, to the left.” She said, breathlessly. Nate nodded. They passed Taz and Alex on their way to the loot room, looks of disbelief, shock, and anger merged into one as they screamed to be freed. No honor among thieves. They stuffed as much of the cash back into the duffel bags as they could, bills of various denominations still spread about like Thanksgiving leftovers. Ashe and Nate dashed into the Arizona sun once more, duffel bags filled to the brim with ill-gotten gains once more. “What now, Ashe?” asked Nate. They were back to square one, now. Alone save for each other, lost to the system. “We improvise.” She said. Then she whispered another prayer. God shouldn’t grant miracles to girls like her, but all are equal before the Lord. ---
Recently I met a seventy-three year old man who had lived in New Jersey all his life until two years ago when he moved here. The state and all it's natural diversity amazes him, having only seen the east coast, some of the south and some of the mid-west. He is sort of on a quest to collect as many memories as he can while still physically able to do so. I have lived here all my life and so between myself, one of his children, and his retired friends who also live here we are visiting as many points of interest as possible. I tried to make a list of all the places he has been to but I would love to hear any other suggestions as we are starting to struggle to find day trips in and around the valley. Here is what I can remember: Superstitions and Peralta Trail Goldfield Ghost town Apache trail, Canyon, Roosevelt, and Apache Lakes Tortilla Flat and Fish Creek Globe and Besh-ba-Gowah archaeological park Tonto National Monument Saguaro Lake and kayaking the Lower Salt River All of the Indian Casinos in or near the valley All of the major shopping centers in the valley Cardinals and ASU football games To the top of Lone Pine Saddle on Four Peaks Box Canyon and the middle Gila Sedona, Oak Creek, and the Pink Jeep Tours Payson and surrounding forest Tonto Natural Bridge State Park Flagstaff and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, and Petrified Forest Montezuma's Castle and Well The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show Casa Grande National Monument Mesa Grande archaeological site in Phx The Heard Museum Papago park, Phoenix Zoo, and The Desert Botanical Gardens The Arizona Science Center and Museum in downtown Phoenix Museums in Downtown Mesa and Gilbert The Ray mine overlook Az Copper Corridor Scenic Highway (S.R. 77) Target shooting on the Tonto National Forest Historical buildings in the town of Florence Fountain Hills and Cave Creek Art Shows I'm sure there is more but this is all I can remember. So Redditors what would you suggest? Day trips are more doable like the Air and Space Museum in Tucson but we are also planning a trip up to Hopi to see some dances on a two day trip.

Planning a Vegas/Zion/Bryce Canyon/Grand Canyon trip. Can I get some thoughts on my itinerary?
http://i.imgur.com/wCM1O4P.png Hi /travel, so I'm planning a family vacation for the beginning of August and was looking for some advice. It's just 3 of us and we're looking to do a 10 day trip, give or take a day or two. Gonna finalize bookings by July. I mapped out my trip (ignore the times/dates on the screenshot, not strictly gonna follow those), the plan is to fly into Vegas (from Newark) and rent a car, drive out to Zion National Park and spend 3 nights there. Hiking each day of course (really want to do Angel's Landing it looks so cool!). Then head over to Bryce Canyon and spend a night there. I heard it was smaller so I allotted less time for it. Possibly camp there. Then head out for the south rim of the grand canyon. We'd swing by Antelope Canyon to have a nice break for the roughly 5 hour drive. I understand that Grand Canyon Village might be fully booked by the time we book so I was thinking Plan B we could just stay in Flagstaff instead and drive up to the Grand Canyon each day. I have 3 days allotted for it. Also was planning on hiking here too. Then we head back for vegas, with a quick stop to see the hoover dam. There we feast in all the buffets and lose all our money on the casinos for a few nights. Joking about the "losing all our money" part, of course we're gonna come out +. We're for sure are hitting the casinos and possibly a club crawl. Questions:
I really want to see Moab, Arches, Canyonland...I feel like I need to set a separate vacation for just Utah there's so many parks! Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're kinda way too out of the way to fit in a 10-ish day trip and save time for vegas. However is there another park near our path that's worth the detour?
If someone on the trip isn't very athletic/unlikely to be able to hike all day, is there anything to do in Zion, Bryce Canyon, Antelope, and Grand Canyon to do aside from hiking? Like we'll definitely do an easy trail as a family, then maybe split off for the harder stuff, but I don't want momma to be sitting in the car for half the time if there isn't anything else to do. Even a nice view to sit back and relax at would suffice for her. She's a lot older than my sister and I so I know there's gonna be lots of stuff that we can't do together, but I would like to try to limit the mom-sitting-out-of-fun-activity time.
How long would you recommend to see Antelope Canyon and Hoover Dam? Few hours?
Let me know if we should change up the amount of nights per place. I was thinking about shortening GC and more time in Vegas cause we'd be gassed from so much hiking and unless you're going deep into the GC and camping several nights you're mostly just looking at the views which doesn't take several days. Also we might be staying in Flagstaff and that 3 hour round trip a day would get old i feel. Lol also my sister doesn't have as much of tolerance for outdoors as I do and I know she'll be happy to spend more time in Vegas.
Our budget isn't too much of a concern so we were planning on staying in hotels/motels for all the places except maybe Bryce Canyon because I heard there wasn't many out there plus it's worth it to be there at night. Is there a particular place that you'd recommend as a must-camp spot?
Suggestions on nightlife in Vegas for recent college grads? General Vegas suggestions?
I have a trip planned with my boyfriend, and we're going to be driving for two and a half days. We both don't like driving all that much and would love some ideas on what to do inbetween. For example, amusement parks, water parks? We can't really think of many ideas, and we can't involve alcohol. The way we're going is Albuquerque (NM) Flagstaff (AZ) Santa Barbara (CA). So are there any fun things to do that can be recommended?
